Numbered captions and cross-references for Google Docs
Caption your images and tables, refer to them anywhere in the text, and let the numbers fix themselves when you add, move or delete a figure.
Get Pro – $29 a yearThe add-on is in Google's review for the Google Workspace Marketplace; the install link goes here as soon as it's listed. A Pro license bought now works from the day it's available. If you buy before then, you can get a full refund any time until 14 days after it's available.
What it does
- Captions in one click. Select an image and get "Figure 1:" under it, or click in a table and get "Table 1:" above it, inside table cells and lists too.
- Numbers that stay right. Add a figure near the start and every later caption and every reference to it is renumbered, in each tab of your document.
- Cross-references that jump. Insert "see Figure 3" from the sidebar; it's a link that takes readers to the caption and follows the number when it changes.
- Honest about deleted figures. A reference to a caption you deleted becomes "Figure ?", so it never quietly points at the wrong thing.
